UTMB Group is the global leader in the organisation of trail running events. Our flagship event, the UTMB Mont-Blanc, has been the world’s highest profile trail race for several years with the best athletes and largest sports brands in attendance.
Based in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in the French Alps, UTMB Group launched the UTMB World Series in partnership with The IRONMAN Group in 2022. The UTMB World Series is the largest trail running circuit in the world, bringing together more than 50 international events to give all trail runners the chance to live the UTMB adventure close to home. UTMB UK are responsible for organising UTMB World Series events in the UK which includes Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB and Arc of Attrition by UTMB.
Missions
UTMB® Group is seeking a talented, motivated and hardworking Event Director to support the development and delivery of our UK events, ideally with previous knowledge of the running industry, to join our passionate team in Manchester.
As the Event Director UK, you will represent UTMB Group in the UK and play a central role in leading and delivering all UTMB UK events to the highest UTMB Group standards and in line with UK industry best practices. This role is key to the success of Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB and Arc of Attrition by UTMB as well as future events in the UK.
Reporting to the International Event Manager, you will provide strategic direction and ensure flawless event execution, managing budgets, timelines, stakeholders and teams (staff, suppliers and volunteers).
You will work closely with local partners and authorities to guarantee operational excellence, safety and an exceptional participant and spectator experience, while driving the growth and reputation of UTMB in the UK.
Responsibilities for the role include:
Strategic & Business Leadership
- Define and lead UTMB’s development strategy in the United Kingdom, in alignment with UTMB Group’s vision and standards.
- Drive revenue growth (registrations, partnerships, hospitality, merchandising, licensing, etc.)
- Lead budget planning and monitoring, optimise event profitability, and guide strategic investments to support UTMB UK's sustainable growth.
- Identify new event opportunities, destinations and local collaborations.
Event Operations Management
- Oversee the planning, organisation and safety of races, ensuring compliance with UTMB standards (sporting quality, runner experience, on-site animation, sustainability), in collaboration with the UK Operations Manager.
- Manage the UK Operations Manager.
- Supervise local teams (staff, volunteers, suppliers) and ensure coordination with UTMB Group.
- Guarantee regulatory, environmental and health compliance for all events.
- Ensure the administrative management of UTMB UK
Marketing, Communications & Runner Experience
- Lead the UK communication strategy (media, influencers, press relations, UTMB storytelling), in collaboration with the UK Marketing & Communications Manager.
- Manage the UK Communication and Marketing Manager
- Ensure brand consistency and a high-quality participant and spectator experience.
- Develop the UK trail running community in line with UTMB values.
External Relations, Partnerships & Ecosystem Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, sponsors, sports federations and key economic stakeholders in host territories.
- Oversee development of the Ultra-Trail Villages at UTMB UK events, ensuring brand consistency, high-quality partnerships and strong commercial value for exhibitors.
- Identify and negotiate strategic partnerships with outdoor brands, nutrition companies, equipment manufacturers, tourism organisations and media.
- Coordinate partner visibility, hospitality and activation initiatives both on-site and digitally.
- Act as UTMB’s ambassador in the United Kingdom, bringing together the trail running community and industry stakeholders around UTMB Group values: authenticity, respect, fairness and shared adventure.

Profile
👉 Minimum +7 years experience in the sport business and outdoor sport events industry;
👉 A strong understanding of the UK trail running and outdoor market;
👉 Solid experience in team management (UTMB UK and local/volunteer teams), with the ability to inspire, unite and develop people;
👉 Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment;
👉 Genuine passion for trail running, nature, and innovative event experiences.
Skills
👉 Proven skills in P&L management and leading multidisciplinary teams;
👉 Excellent organisational skills and operational rigor;
👉 Strategic vision and strong business orientation;
👉 Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and inspirational leadership;
👉 Fluent in spoken and written English language, French is a major advantage.
